Practical Information

Story Treat 2023 takes place from Monday, September 11th-Saturday, September 16th at the Moulin du Merle, a picturesque villa in Burgundy, France. Guests may also arrive on Sunday, September 10th for a small additional cost. The house is located close to the town of Clamecy, which has a direct train to Paris. If you arrive by train, we can arrange to pick you up at the station.

The cost to attend Story Treat is €600. All meals are included in the price: breakfast, lunch, dinner -as well as water, coffee and tea. Soft drinks, beer and wine will be available but are not included in the price. If you have allergies or diet preferences please let me know so we can take those in account. There is WiFi available in the house. Bedlinnen and towels are included.

The house is built next to a 17th century water mill and there is a pond that -if the weather allows it- can be used for swimming: don’t forget to bring your swimsuit! The surrounding areas are great for walking, so it is a good idea to bring shoes that you can walk on comfortably. Throughout the week there will be sketch trips and drawing sessions, so remember to bring pens, pencils, paper, iPads, and any other drawing material you might need.

FAQ

Thank you for your interest in Story Treat! While we appreciate the enthusiasm of students and aspiring storyboard artists, we must emphasize that this event is exclusively for working professionals in the industry. However, we’re exploring the possibility of organizing a separate event specifically for artists trying to break into the industry, so please stay tuned for updates, here on our website.

At Story Treat, we take diets and allergies into account when planning our menus and activities. While we do our best to accommodate everyone’s needs, in some extreme cases, it may be challenging for us to provide safe alternatives. If you have specific dietary needs or allergies, please reach out to us so we can discuss the best way to accommodate you.

While we do plan talks, workshops, and activities for Story Treat, there is no formal program for the week. We believe that a casual atmosphere and spontaneous interactions are just as important for fostering creativity and building relationships among our guests. There are also some activities, like sketch trips for example, that will in part be planned around the weather. We encourage you to come with an open mind and be ready to relax and be inspired!

We have a variety of activities planned for Story Treat, including sketch sessions in the beautiful French countryside, talks and presentations by industry professionals, improv sessions to explore basic techniques and have some fun, and games such as a quiz and Kubb (weather permitting) on the lawn. Of course, there will also be plenty of time to eat and drink together and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere.
